Ron Paul Speaks: 'No' on Romney

More than a year after his surprisingly strong early run for president, the Texas Republican declines to endorse Romney -- or Obama -- for president.

Ron Paul Republicans aren't the only people leery of Mitt Romney. Ron Paul is, too.

The Texas Republican congressman has pointedly refused to endorse his party’s presidential contender. Speaking on CNBC, Paul argued that neither he nor President Barack Obama would make necessary cuts to public spending that would avert a fiscal catastrophe.

“No,” the iconoclastic Libertarian bluntly told CNBC’s “Futures Now,” when asked about whether he was prepared to endorse Romney. He said the former Massachusetts governor and the president are both captives of similar interests.

“Both within the establishment where they need the Federal Reserve as lender of last resort to make sure that you take all the risk in the world,” Paul said. He linked the Fed — his favorite foil — and the Washington political establishment together as part of a “one party system” that refuses to make necessary but difficult choices to cut spending.

In August, a survey showed Republicans in Iowa cautious about Mitt Romney’s chances of defeating President Obama in next month's general election. A big part of the reason may be the former Massachusetts governor's failure to win over Ron Paul supporters, who constitute a significant portion of delegates headed to the Tampa convention.

An Op-Ed from Jane Aitken, founder of the NH Tea Party Coalition titled "Paul Ryan is no Ron Paul."

Paul finished a strong third in the Iowa caucuses behind former Sen. Rick Santorum and Romney.

Well, what do you know, a man with integrity..never expected an Obama endorsement but considering Mitt's ideas about increasing defense spending and getting into wars with everyone out there, it would have been hypocritical for paul to endorse Romney.

@ Frightwingslayer,
"Well, what do you know, a man with integrity.."
Not so much. Ron Paul's district has received more than 4 billion in ear marks since he's been their rep. RP would watch the test votes on bills. If a bill was going to pass anyway without his 'yes' vote, he would add money for his district then vote against the bill. He'd claim to oppose ear marks, while making sure his district got some of that money anyway.
Integrity?? Questionable.
BTW, his son supports Romney.

His son just blasted Romney on his Foreign Policy ideas..Maybe you missed that...He won't endorse Romney cause Romney, in regard to domestic and foreign policy is on the other end of anything Paul believes...

Ronnie DelBacco - Write what you want about him, Ron Paul was the only candidate not beholden to the military industrial complex and the banks. Until someone like him is in the Oval Office, the needless wars and senseless bailouts for the financial industry will continue.

Andrew,
Aside from the ear marks issue, I agree that Ron Paul would be good domestically in regards to finance. He would be a good person to put in charge of the Fed. However on Foreign policy, Ron Paul would be a disaster, though I agree we should not have military bases in 130+ countries.
He would be a better choice than Obama, but he isn't the nominee and doesn't have a chance at a write in win. So, my choice is Romney.

Ronnie, please explain how Ron Paul's foreign policy would be anything less of a "disaster" than what we have now! We're stretched thin, fighting a war in the Graveyard of Empires - Afghanistan. Obama has started intervention in five other nations - Libya, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, and Egypt, without any approval of Congress. Our foreign interventions have created millions of enemies who detest our presence.

Again, explain how the Founder's philosophies of non-intervention and avoiding "entangling alliances" would be a disaster? Do you think George Washington was an idiot?

"Ron Paul brought 4 billion in earmarks to his district" Ronnie have you ever been to Victoria Texas? 4 billion would be enough to tear down and rebuild the entire district several times. Trust me, Victoria is an old place. Where are the facts backing up your statement?

It was 400 million, not 4 billion, sorry. It's been awhile since I read about it.

Ronnie,
The comment regarding Ron Paul being good as the head of the fed is just ludicrous simply for the fact that Ron Paul only believes in taking down the fed. Maybe before bashing an iconic man like Ron Paul know your facts. I'd rather waste my vote as a write-in for Ron Paul than vote for Romney or Obama- I do actually like this country and wish to avoid a fiscal catastrophe. Ron Paul's the only man I know of that is worthy of the title Mr. President.

I'm well aware that RP wants to abolish the fed, but since it isn't going to happen under a Romney or Obama administration then the next best hopw would be to have someone like RP in charge of it. At least then he can reign it in. I voted for RP in the primary election over McCain. I've read RP's book and considered him seriously this time as well. However, he isn't going to win a write in campaign and so we need to choose from those who at least have a chance to win and who allign the closest with ouir beleifs.

At this point in time a no for Romney is a yes for Obama, that is just a fact.

Ron Paul has addressed the earmark issue many of times, here is a example (which makes complete sense) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWTyHbGcUQY. You all will have to excuse Mr DelBacco he is a NeoCOn, and has stated his disdain from Mr. Paul numerous time before.
