After Newtown, Do Easton Schools Need Guards?
In the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shooting, should the Easton Area School District reinstate security guards for its schools?
In the wake of last week's horrific school shooting in Connecticut, the Easton Area School District issued an alert to parents that it would do everything possible to ensure the safety of its students.
Should that include reinstating security guards at its elementary schools?
The school district did away with the guards before the start of the new school year, another casualty of an off-season that saw more than 100 teachers and 50 staffers lose their jobs in the wake of closing a budget deficit.
So, take our poll below, and tell us what you think in the comments. Also, we'd like to hear from you in the comments about how you'd prevent further shootings. Tougher gun laws? More guns? A stronger mental health system? Give us your answers below.

Our schools definitely need the security guards back in them. But not ones that are older and look like they couldn't protect our kids.

Yes they should re-instate the personnel they had checking in visitors and making sure no one gets in and out of school unsupervised.
They shouldn't be armed though in my opinion. Seeing armed police roam the building this week doesn't make me feel safer, it makes me feel worry more that someone could be in the building.

I do agree that we need security back in our elementary schools. We should also keep in mind that from what has been relayed in the media by the school Superintendent, Sandy Brook had extensive security measures in place. With this in mind, it is imperative to review the security measures that we currently have in place and what we can do to improve. Starting with bringing the security back into our schools. The safety of our children and the staff should not be compromised due to a budget cut. How can we put a price on their safety?

I definitely think that there should be security guards in the schools.I have witnessed first hand that some of these kids come with such a bad attitude to school, that if someone accidentally bumps into them ,they are ready to fight.

Of course AND armed too. Your kids see cop shows, videos ,and all the horrible news. Kids understand protection not threat and that's what security is. Talk to your kids they might tell you instead of guessing.
