Eddie G's Killing, Drug Raid Could Be Connected
Police say they've been wanting to talk to man arrested on a drug warrant about downtown Easton homicide.
Easton police say they want to talk to a man arrested in a raid on the South Side Thursday about a homicide in the city earlier this month.
Lt. Matthew Gerould said police have been looking for Miguel Rodriguez to talk to him in connection with the shooting death of Damien Robinson on Feb. 9 at Eddie G's Bar.
Rodriguez was taken into custody late Thursday following a raid at 516 Glendon Ave.
Rodriguez -- who goes by the nickname "DOLO" -- was wanted on drug charges in the city and in New York, police said. He is also believed to be a member of the VCGs, or "Very Crispy Gangsters" in New York City.
Gerould said an officer had spotted Rodriguez earlier in the day. Police -- including members of the city's SWAT-like Special Emergency Response Team -- surrounded the building around 7 p.m.
At one point, an officer told reporters to be careful not to be within the building's line of sight, because a man police were looking for "had control" of the building's third floor.
Police could be heard using a loudspeaker asking the people in the apartment to come out. After refusing for several hours, Rodriguez and the other people in the apartment surrended without incident.
Earlier in the evening, a man appeared on scene identifying himself as a U.S. marshal. Mayor Sal Panto also stopped by the scene for a brief update.
Police have said the killing at Eddie G's could be related to an argument between members of the Bloods gang.
As of late Thursday night, police were still at the scene of the Glendon Avenue apartment looking for evidence.
Rodriguez was wanted on heroin charges in the city, and has an arrest warrant connected to a DUI traffic stop on Feb. 8. A second man, Jeffrey Raymond, 18, was also arrested Thursday on drug charges.
