Police: Man Punched Woman, Crashed Her Car
A Wilson man is charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend after taking and crashing her car.
Police in Wilson say a borough man took his ex-girlfriend's car without permission, crashed it, and then hit her when she confronted him.
Neftali Rivera Cruz, 34, was arrested Thursday after police were called to 2000 Butler St., where according to court records, a woman said her "ex boyfriend took her car and crashed it."
According to police, Cruz had taken his ex-girlfriend's car without permission and crashed it into a steel post at the corner of Elm and 20th streets in Wilson.
When the ex-girlfriend asked him what had happened, he hit in the eye, police said. Court records say witnesses described a fight between Cruz and the woman, with them wrestling in the backyard.
Police say Cruz had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes at the time of his arrest.
Cruz is charged with simple simple assault, driving while under the influence, and various motor vehicle violations. He was arraigned before District Judge Daniel Corpora in Easton, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
