Tuesday's installment of the city's Summer Nights program offered something a bit different: a chance for West Ward kids to make their bikes safer, and maybe learn a few new skills.

On hand was Scott Slingerland, of the Coalition for Appropriate Transportation, as well as a few Easton police officers, who handed out "tickets" (good for a free ice cream) to kids who came with their own helmets.

A second installment of the program will be offered Saturday, July 30 at the Fringe Festival on North 12th Street.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the bike safety program scheduled for July 30, but plans for another program are in the works. We will keep you posted.
