The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of this country was recently downgraded to 1.3%.
This is abysmal. The upcoming jobs report will show America to have a 44th month of unemployment over 8%. When you figure in those that have given up looking for work, it's closer to 19%. THAT is abysmal.

Median Family Income has dropped $4,000 under Obama. More people are out of work now then when Obama took office.

The above are the facts. Why are some Americans continuing to support a president who's only experience was as a US Senator in his first term, who spent most of that first term running for higher office. Before that he was a state senator in his first term who voted "present" over 100 times instead of a yea or nay vote.

Romney has run a business, a successful Olympics and a state.
One has "Executive Experience" , the other is still trying to figure out what that is after almost 4 years.

Amen Keith. Couldn't have said it better. Obama couldn't even look Romney in the face, or the camera for that matter. He knows his policies have failed. He's hoping we won't notice and that class warfare will get him the votes he needs.

Why should any adult be 'inexperienced at shopping for health insurance'? Government was not created to take care of those who are too lazy to take care of themselves. This is 2012, read and educate yourself via the internet, library, friends, family, etc., on insurance. I do not want the government telling me what type of medical care I am 'permitted' to receive. It is up to my doctor and I, not some bureaucratics sitting in an office playing solitaire on their computers deciding my fate. Goodness, it seems some are hoping for a nanny state. If you mean making progress at helping our country at this rate id say he would need at least 20 more years and since 4 more is the most he could serve i say why waste them with more of the same. Maybe if he would have spent less time blaming others he could have gotten something done.

Middle Class? You are not serious are you? Do you consider the high unemployment rate progress? Obama stated it would be under 8% if he were elected. That certainly has not happened. Do you consider the many more millions on food stamps progress? Do you consider all the small companies that have shuttered their doors progress? Middle class? There will not be a middle class if we continue to increase the deficit. Our children & grandchildren's future are being wagered by a President who has no idea of how economics works. Solyndra, Fisker & the other 'friends' of Obama have sucked us dry. That 90 billion could have gone a long way towards the deficit instead of being thrown into the wind, literally.

Fair shot was given, i.e. mortgages to those that could not afford the home, credit cards, etc. That 'Dream Act' sure worked, didn't it? Turned into a nightmare for those that actually work hard, pay taxes, support their families and live within their means, they are the ones now paying for the 'fair shot' everyone was given. Of course those given the 'fair shot' wanted the government to nanny them when they were going down while the hard working people were given the shaft. Yes, that's what a fair shot has done. This is America, anyone can become successful, charitable and happy, but it is up to the person, not the government to hand it to them. It takes work, hard work and there are many that are too lazy, too self-centered and too immature to help themselves.

President Obama is absolutely not responsible for current gas prices. If McCain had been elected, gas prices would still be where they are, and Democrats would be using the issue against him. The reason for this is that projects that bring gasoline to consumers take years to execute.

Comment_arrow

M. Xavier D. Hodge

1:23 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012

If President Obama declared tomorrow that oil companies could drill anywhere they wanted, it would have no impact on supplies (and by extension, fuel prices) for years. Further, there are no assurances that even this would moderate gasoline prices, because these prices are increasingly being driven by factors outside of the United States.
Oil is a Globally Traded Commodity

Comment_arrow

M. Xavier D. Hodge

1:23 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012

This last point is important, and it is critical to understand if you want to understand why gasoline prices are rising. If you look at consumption habits around the world, it is true that in the U.S. gasoline demand has plummeted. We might expect that we should therefore see falling gasoline prices. But the oil markets are not limited to the borders of the United States, and the U.S. is still heavily dependent upon oil imports (and hence, we pay the world price) for the fuel that we produce. As long as growth in developing countries remains strong, people there are happy to buy the oil products that the U.S. or EU is not using, keeping the price pressure very high.

Comment_arrow

M. Xavier D. Hodge

1:23 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012

In a nutshell, the price of gasoline is not determined by U.S. presidential policy, but rather by how much people in India, Vietnam, or China are willing to pay for oil. Demand growth in those countries has been extremely strong even in the face of $100 oil, and that is a fundamental reason why there has been no gas price relief despite that fact that 1). Gasoline demand in the U.S. is down; and 2). Oil production in the U.S. has been rising.

If you really believe that Obama has a lot of control over gasoline prices, then ask yourself why prices are up all around the world. Why are people in the UK protesting gasoline prices? Do Obama’s policies drive up prices throughout the world? Of course not. Gasoline prices are responding to the same market forces in Europe, Asia, and even in oil-exporting countries like Canada. The fact that gas prices are up everywhere should tip people off that this issue extends far beyond the powers of the American president.

Romney did give examples- generally the problems with Frank-Dodd, Obamacare and Medicare. He wants to get rid of Obamacare and certain regulations included in Frank-Dodd and Medicare.
Obama did not debate well. He stuttered and seemed tired at listening to competent people not fawn at him. Oddly enough I am a Democrat and have been one from the day I registered at the age of 18. I am well versed in politics, have lived it almost my entire life. For the first time I will vote for a Republican. I cannot support a man who has spent more time on the golf course, campaigning and raising money than he has with his committee's, Congress, Senate, etc. I took umbrage when our Ambassador was murdered & Obama took off in Air Force One the next day for a campaign dinner in Vegas instead of sitting in the Oval Office and being briefed face to face with our State Department. His priorities are askew & have been. He & his wife & mother-in-law enjoy the perks of the office without actually working for the honor the voters have given them. He's a sham, proved tonight when he stuttered & could not explain his own policies. He could not defend his record tonight because his record is abysmal. He has let the Country down & if you do not do your job you are fired & it is time to fire Obama.

The fact that Bush Jr's policies were horrible does not excuse Mr. Obama from his equally failed economic policies. Facts:
Bush: $2 trillion in unfunded spending in 8 years for terrorist attacks and two wars (validity of these can be debated) and a massive entitlement program of a drug program.
Obama: $6+ trillion of unfunded spending on (?). $60 billion on fake "green companies" that went bankrupt after paying the corporate officers off in golden parachutes on the taxpayer dollars. This could have given us 2 million new teachers. If anyone who reads this blog and pays attention, we should know that if we REALLY want better schools, we have to vote for candidates who don't owe anything to special interests. ROMNEY 2012!!!!

Question: You blamed Obama for $6 Trillion in debt, yet you used as support $60 Billion in spending on green energy. You do know that $60 billion is a lot less than $6 trillion, right? --> 60 billion < 6 trillion. Did that help?

Ron Beitler

12:25 am on Thursday, October 4, 2012

One thing I don't get is Romney's unwillingness to address the military budget in a RESPONSIBLE way. We simply fight wars differently today then yesterday. The extremely expensive doctrine of two traditional simultaneous "fronts" just isn't in play anymore. Without downplaying a disaster scenario with China, most can agree the threats that face us today are different then what we faced 2 decades ago. We can defend ourselves without the ultra expensive military budget of the past. I'm not talking about cutting soldier pay or benefits but there are many other items the military can address without even venturing into pay/benefits or combat related areas.

This also begs re-examination of the fundamental question. Are we still the police force of the world? Do we need to be? Do we want to be?

The military being the massive chunk of the budget that it is... shouldn't be untouchable or at least un-examinable, or un-scritunizable. It's a basic function of gov't... absolutely. It's a bureaucracy but an essential bureaucracy and like any bureaucracy when given a blank check you WILL find waste.

Is it considered dictatorship when a Bill is passed when the majority of American's disagreed with it and members of Congress did not take the time to read the Bill prior to voting for it?

I understand that no President or politician; for that matter can keep all their promises, but in four years, what promise has Obama kept except the aforementioned health care act? His main campaign promises in 2008 were unemployment would be below 8%. Four years later it has not happened. Guantanamo Bay is still open despite his promise to close it. He espoused his 'Immigration Reform' which has not happened after four years. No lobbyists in his Administration, didn't stick either, he has former lobbyists working in the Administration.

He has blamed former President Bush constantly and it has gotten old after four years. It is time Obama stood up like a man and admit he is in way over his head. His talking points in the debate this evening prove it. He could not comprehend economics, he stuttered, looked at the moderator and appeared inept. A much different Obama than four years ago when he promised 'Hope & Change'. Nothing has changed on Capital Hill, it's politics as usual. Much has changed for the working class, things have gotten worse. His own Vice President stated the "Middle class has been buried the past four years". Finally someone in the Obama Administration spoke the truth.

Romney never said "Government would create 5 million jobs". He said his Economic Policies (something sorely lacking from this President) would create the jobs.

President Obama, almost as soon as he was elected, announced he would "create" 600,000 jobs in the Public Sector, all by simply hiring those 600K directly off Government rolls. Although I doubt he ever accomplished 600K, those increased jobs are being paid for by your tax dollars.

That's the difference between Romney Economic Vision and President Obama's lack of same.

And as an Obama supporter I was really disappointed at how lack luster the president was.....he let everything slide when he had the purfect opportunity to call Romney out and uncover him on stage for the liers he is.....but he failed go even bring up the whole 47% thing! ...I wad pissed.....and to be really honest I am bothered by the way people in this country are treating this election...... We are so devided in this county that we act more like its a football game.....like we should be team ( party ) loyal..... It's not a football game..... It's an election..... We should be listening to who is making more sence for the county's best interst.... And if it means voting over the line that's ok..... Get with it people....you can NOT run a county like a corporation! ......there is a whole world out there.....and Romney sees only ONE thing....MONEY!

And I also feel that the media is way to much involved.... And its cause people to form opinions based on what they hear on the news....instead of researching the candidate and forming our own concussion..... Stop listening to every little thing we hear on TV and radio talk shows and THINK for yourselfs!

I thought Obama was going to bring us together. Post racial..I think it was Obama who said...."the republicans will just have to get to the back of the bus." Very bipartisan, very racially sensitive. The man is a child, who is in way over his abilities.

Coal Industry Suffers. Obama should be blamed because he wants to penalize the coal industry. He wants is destroyed.. When is Pennsyvania going to note that at the Voting Booth? Get him out of this Presidency.

You realize that when Romney lied about about the $90 billion, it was really only 30 billion, that was spent on Green energy a portion was for clean coal. Romney was spitting out lies at faster rate than his bud Lyin Ryan.

Big Turd wants to fund his tax cut on the back of Big Bird. Mitt and Ann refuse to show their tax returns for 2005-2009, since their accountants said they paid about 14%, the only reason to hide those returns is the IRS amnesty for rich tax cheats with secret Swiss accounts. After the UBS whistle blower case the IRS let rich tax cheats "pay the fine" instead of trial for the felony they committed. Maybe they should be in the big house rather than the White House.
