William Thompson lived on the 1400 block of Washington Street, in Easton's West Ward.

He met his death about eight blocks away Tuesday, stabbed several times during an apparent fight involving two other men.

And now, city police are trying to determine who those men are, and what led to the attack.

Easton Police Lt. Matthew Gerould said officers responded to a report of a fight at South Union and Ferry streets and found Thompson, 43, laying unconscious and bleeding from multiple stab wounds.

Thompson was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, according to the Lehigh County Coroner. An autopsy determined his death was a homicide.

Police were looking for two suspects connected to the stabbing, which occurred near the Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center. Union Street runs between Sixth and Seventh streets in Easton.

Gerould said the descriptions on the suspects were limited: two black men, one wearing a white t-shirt, the other wearing a white tank top. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call police at 610-250-6634 or 610-250-6796.

This is the second homicide in Easton this year. In April, Matthew Kelly of Bethlehem was shot during an altercation in the West Ward in which another man was shot and wounded. A county grand jury is investigating that shooting.
