The Marquis de Lafayette was, by all accounts, an accomplished guy.

Accomplished enough to live 255 years?

Not exactly, but he'll be celebrated this month by the college that bears his name on what would have been the Big 2-5-5.

To mark the marquis' birthday -- Sept. 6 -- Lafayette College is hosting two speakers to discuss his life and his time in America.

On Thursday, Alan R. Hoffman, president of the American Friends of Lafayette, who also serves as president of the Massachusetts Lafayette Society, will speak on Lafayette as "A Symbol of Franco-American Friendship."

Then on Monday, Sept. 10, Patrick Villiers of the University Littoral-côte d'Opale, Boulogne-sur-mer, and the Center for the History of the Atlantic Cost in France, will speak about the Marquis' first visit to America.

Both talks are scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at the Gendebien Room of the college's Skillman Library.
