Help Easton Hire a New School Superintendent

The Easton Area School Board is setting up a committee to help screen candidates for the district superintendent's job.

Do you want to have a say in who becomes the Easton Area School District's new superintendent?

Then reach out to the school board, which is looking for eight to 10 district residents to serve on a committee to screen candidates for the job.

The board voted earlier this year not to renew the contract of Susan McGinley, who has served as superintendent since 2008. Her term ends at the end of the school year. The board hasn't yet interviewed candidates.

Anyone interested in sitting on the committee is asked to submit the following information to eastonsuperintendent@kingspry.com:

  • Name
  • Occupation
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • A short letter explaining why you want to serve on the committee.

The board is expected to post this information later today on its website, as well as a survey asking community members what qualities they'd like to see in a superintendent.

--we have a full Board of elected representatives, a paid solicitor, and a paid search advisor (s) ---what is a team of unelected participants with no actual vote going to add to the equation that is not already in place?

And to the extent that screening requires attention to rules about discrimination the proven way to get into expensive trouble is to have too many unprofessional hands in the pie! Screening/recruiting requires keen attention to a variety of protocols.

It may be a good idea to try another approach. Your full board of elected representatives, paid solicitor and paid search advisor have been doing this search repeatedly for years and have never gotten it right. We have managed to get into expensive buy-outs and retirements over and over again. So, what's a discrimination suit, just another law suit over protecting emails?
