Five Things to Know Today, Feb. 21

"Best of..." week two, climate change lecture at Lafayette, and more...

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone's week is off to a good start. Here's five things to know today.

1. Our "Best of..." poll is off to a pretty strong start this week. And once again, a Collge Hill-based business is leading the pack. Cosmic Cup has 75 percent of the vote, but it's still early enough for someone else to make a comeback.

2. Cheston and Tracy elementary schools are holding their Odyssey of the Mind competitions this week

3. Nobel prize winning scienist Richard Alley speaks on climate change tonight at Lafayette College's Colton Chapel at 7 p.m.

4. The College Hill Neighborhood Association holds its monthly meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at College Hill Presbyterian Church.

5. Today is February 21. It's the 40th anniversary of Richard Nixon's visit to China and the 64th birthday of NASCAR. Also celebrating birthdays today: Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO, and character actor and Easton native Jack Coleman. (The episode of NBC's "Heroes" that centered around him was that show's finest hour.)

In the city? Easton Baking...I think. I don't know that we're a big fasnacht town, but I could be mistaken.

I believe the local Giants usually sell them as well. Honestly, it's never something that's on my radar. I mean, I know that Lent starts tomorrow, but I never make the mental connection to fasnachts.

Easton Bakery is the best place to get them because of course they are fresh, and they open up extra early every year just for the day!

Fasnachts were made as a way to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat, and butter, which were traditionally fasted from during Lent
