Easton Police Make Arrest in Stabbing Death
Lawrence Gaines, 44, taken into custody hours after being named as a suspect in death of William Thompson.
Easton police have arrested a man in connection with Tuesday's fatal stabbing.
Lawrence Gaines, 44, was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, hours after police issued a news release naming him as a suspect and charging him with criminal homicide in the death of William Thompson.
Lt. Matthew Gerould said Gaines was found by an officer in the first block of S. 11th Street.
Thompson, 43, of the 1400 block of Washington Street, was found suffering from several stab wounds Tuesday morning at the corner of Ferry and S. Union streets. He was pronounced dead later in the morning at St. Luke's Hospital.
Police have said the stabbing was the result of a fight. Initially, police were looking for two men, but Gerould told the Express-Times Wednesday that the fight only involved Gaines and Thompson.
