Easton Kicks Off First-Ever "Ringside Jazz Concert Series"
The Nanga World Jazz Trio will bring some musical ethnicity to Easton this Friday.
This week’s musical opportunity is coming up fast: on July 8, the Nanga Jazz World Trio will be playing at Larry Holmes’ Ringside Restaurant and Lounge in Easton. For those of you who haven’t been to the lounge, not only will you get a taste of some talented jazz musicians, you’ll get a mini history lesson about former professional boxer Larry “The Easton Assassin” Holmes.
Friday’s show will kick-start the “Ringside Jazz Concert Series” for the summer, with more jazz concerts to follow. The band consists of pianist Patrick Poladian, upright bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan, and percussionist Michael Thompson, all renowned jazz musicians.
“Sullivan’s a bassist whose authoritative and bluesy blending of the notes honor his affection for legends such as Slam Stewart as well as Ray Brown,” says the Jazz Journalists Association. And the Jazz Times calls Thompson “impressive both in his rhythmic affinity…and in his sensitivity to texture and tone.”
The trio integrates music from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and is sure to put on a show full of improvisation (a key element of good jazz music) and foot-tapping solos.
