Easton Area Native Avoids Death Sentence in Florida Murders

Patrick Wharen Sr. gets life for killing wife, man she was living with.

A man from the Easton area will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his estranged wife and another man in Florida.

Patrick Wharen Sr., -- who the Express-Times says is a Wilson Area High School graduate -- was given a life sentence Tuesday by a Florida jury.

According to the website Florida Today, jurors chose to give Wharen life in prison rather than the death penalty for the murders of Kelly Wharen, 34, and Jonathon Vuick, 19, in 2008 in the town of Frontenac.

Prosecutors say Wharen, 41 suspected his wife was having an affair with Vuick, a fact she denied, claiming Vuick was the fiancee of a daughter she'd given up for adoption.
