Easton Police Detective Demoted

Thomas Beiser, a detective with Easton's vice squad, will be reassigned as a patrol officer effective immediately.

An Easton police detective was demoted Tuesday evening.

Endorsing the disciplinary recommendations of Chief Larry Palmer, the council unanimously agreed Thomas Beiser, a detective with the department's vice squad, will be reassigned as a patrol officer after an unspecified infraction.

Officials refused to reveal more about the personnel issue, other than to say the matter was discussed by the mayor and council in an executive session immediately prior to the council meeting and the move is warranted, based on a police administrative investigation.

Beiser was one of two members of the force involved in an off-duty scuffle in Carbon County in June. The other officer, Patrolman Russell Demko pleaded guilty to public drunkeness and disorderly conduct.

Beiser was found guilty, but later had that conviction overturned. In September, Police Chief Larry Palmer told the Express-Times the department had disciplined both Demko and Beiser, but would not go into more detail.

Police officials were not available Tuesday evening for comment.
