Brush Fire Closes Paxinosa Road for Several Hours

Forks Township Fire Department puts down a brush fire in Gollub Park that had the potential to spread quickly because of high winds and dry weather.

Northampton County 911 reports that Forks Township Fire Department responded and put out a brush fire in Gollub Park Thursday afternoon.

Because of high winds and dry weather, the fire had the potential to spread quickly, and Paxinosa Road East was closed until after nightfall. On Wednesday, the National Weather Service had issued a fire warning because of the weather conditions.

Fire Chief Charles Chapman said he believes the fire started from some damaged power lines.

"There was a lot of wind and it's common for tree limbs to hit the lines," he said. "There might have been some arcing and sparks from that could have ignited the brush."

Chapman said Met-Ed later came to the location to check the power lines, saying there were some damaged poles.

"There wasn't any indication that cause came from anything else," the chief said.

Forks Fire posted photos of the event on Facebook, and report there were no injuries, but several trees caught fire and had to be cut down. No cause of the fire was given.
