The school did not contact parents until the buses were 20 minutes late. EASD did communicate that there was a threat to the parents all day, EASD failed miserably in their role today!

I didnt get the until after my daughter got home. we should have been alerted right away. no communication on when we can get their stuff. so frustrating

Ridiculous! Why has no one informed the parents of more details? The kids are out of sorts and we have not been assured of the situation ourselves. In the world that we now live in, this lack of communication from the school is unacceptable.

I too only got a call from the middle school after my child was already home. I had no idea what was wrong and was extremely worried for my child. No answer at the school and no message informing us of a delay or incident until after the fact. When I asked my child what happen that the bus was 30 mins late..I was told by my child that there was a bomb scare and the they were outside in the cold with no jacket for at least an ho. Many childre were scared and crying. Why were we not notified earlier of the delay or incident?

I had no idea what was going on until I realized my daughter was not home on time. I tried calling her cell phone which was left in her bookbag when they had to evacuate and had to find out that someone else ( a grown man) had her cell phone. When I ran to her bus stop, I saw her walking without a jacket or book bag. She ran telling me that there was a bomb threat and said they had been outside since 2:00 p.m. I had no idea any of this was going on and I am really upset. Not only was my child standing outside for over an hour but someone managed to steal her cell phone out of her book bag. I hope that her text books and book bag are still in the classroom in which they made them evacuate. I didnt receive the school message until 3:39 pm.

My son doesn't even know why he was evacuated until we got home this evening. I received no notification other than on my HOME ans machine and I work. However when ski club was cancelled last week I got a call at home my cell and my husbands cell and both out work. Where is the system failing?

There might be more to this story that they are not telling us! I heard there was a stabbing due to drugs? on the 7-8 side and I heard this from 2 sources! Did anyone else hear this??? I hope and pray this is not accurate but another note, there were dogs there today too? Sniffing for a bomb or drugs or both???

Being an alarmist doesn't help anyone. Bomb threats have been around for decades... In middle school too. Hell, I grew up in Podunk North Jersey and they occurred constantly from middle school onward. Doesn't make it right, just saying its no ones first rodeo. My daughter and kids in the neighborhood said no one was crying and no one knew what was going on until they came home. Yes, they stood outside without jackets and that with complaints of "I left my phone in my locker!" being the biggest concern of the kids. What did you expect the school to do? Robocall everyone there was a bomb threat and watch the hysteria ensue?

I lived next door to Ft Hood during the shooting. My daughters were in lockdown until 6pm that night because all reports were that there were two shooters between the base and town and no one from the school called me. I and everyone else found out from police reports and the news what was going on. It wasn't until much later that we were called and instructed to pick them up.

If you want something to be in an uproar about, how about the melee in the cafeteria at the high school today? A girl body slammed another girl (using the cafeteria table) thus leading a security guard to tackle her and have a cop come in and warn the students that, "any student that fights, will be arrest and charged with rioting."

My g-d people, find something else to do with your time! Really all you have to do is complain on a patch?!? Aren't you glad your kid is safe? So what you got a late call, the school kept your kids safe. Get over it.

What's more important: the call or or your kid being out of the building, safe?

In my view EASD handled this the way it should have been. The kids were evacuated as soon as the threat was made (aprox 2:10 PM), the kids were sent home without going back in (did you REALLY want your kids to get thier jackets with the threat of a BOMB going off???????), and the calls went out at 3:30. I do not see where the EASD dropped the ball ANYWHERE or ANYWAY on this.

Seriously, the same people complain about this are the same ones complaining if their kids weren't safe and something happened...really! Give me a solution that would have kept kids warm during a bomb threat.....then call all the parents so they can panic and come to the school when every street was blocked off entering school and if they want to pick up their kids cause a disruption! That would help. Oh ya if the school just told u the buses would be late, then you would complain and call, when no one was in the building trying to find out why,! Then when u find out it was a bomb threat the school was withholding information! You can't have it both ways... Again what do you want them to do, give solutions instead of criticism since all are safe. That's all

Easton's always had it's issues. I had been threatened with a knife in 6th grade myself and then in later years dealt with sexual harrasment from other students. That said, I do realize this type of behavior is not limited to any one school. The problem in my eyes is that the school board has allowed this type of behavior to exist for so long in this district. Now, while it's hard to say what exactly happened yesterday- I have yet to hear any further reports - I think this is two fold. We need to be empathetic to those (parents and students) alike who were directly affected by yesterday's events, yet we have to take accountability as well for as a parent it is our job to teach our children how to deal with these types of situations. When my 9-year old came to me last night upset by yesterday's events, it was my job to tell her what happened to the best of my abilities and to teach her how to handle that situation herself if ever presented with it. Difficult as it may be, I feel it is what is necessary in these changing times.

EASD sucks. They have not a clue how to handle anything, much less the serious stuff. No wonder they are having so many other issues financially. Inept, absurd, out of step, and out of date. Wake up EASD and dump all of the board members, fire all the administrators, and get rid of their union leaders. Time to get real people who understand real issues to run that system.
